Look at Me

Director: Agnes Jaoui

Cast: Agnes Jaoui, Marilou Berry, Laurent Grevill, Jean-Pierre Bacri

A strong, character-driven drama from France, emphasising, as the French want to do, the overwhelming influences of native culture on the rest of us.

Here, we meet the shy Berry who lives in the shadow of her famous father, a writer she both loves and hates. She is, too, manipulated by a teacher (Jaoui) for her own ends and finds that people only want her because of her father.

Making it because of a famous father does have its well-worked and well-known local connections and this is a strong and interesting consideration of same; a tad slow in its pace but well worth catching.
