Former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell is taking singing lessons in a bid to boost her pop career comeback.

The 32-year-old star has gone back to practising simple vocal exercises to save her singing voice after a throat operation, and no longer smokes cigarettes.

She says: "I quit smoking and had nodules in my throat removed. You'll hear the difference to my voice on the new album.

"I've had to go back to singing lessons and doing all these vocal exercises. It's very embarrassing."

The It's Raining Men hitmaker recently announced she's following in the footsteps of Madonna and Cher, by dropping her surname to become simply Geri.
