The winner of this year’s Man Booker Prize spoke of his joy at scooping the prestigious £50,000 (€72,100) award.

Alan Hollinghurst’s novel The Line of Beauty, about Thatcherism and gay sex, beat David Mitchell’s Cloud Atlas, which had been the hottest favourite in the history of the award.
