Romance sinks without trace in movie poll
World War II epic Saving Private Ryan's horrific opening sequence has been named the best movie moment of all time in a new poll.
The Omaha beach landing scene featuring Tom Hanks, came top of the survey conducted by website Moviechoices, proving that visually graphic and gripping cinema sticks in viewers minds more than heart-warming love scenes.
The only romantic movies to make the top 10 are When Harry met Sally and Titanic, but Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio's love affair was overlooked in favour of the special effects-laden sinking of the infamous ocean liner.
The top ten movie moments are as follows:
1. SAVING PRIVATE RYAN - The Omaha landing,
2. ALIEN - The monster bursting out of JOHN HURT's chest,
3. TITANIC - The sinking,
4. THE SIXTH SENSE - The creepy final twist,
5. PSYCHO - The shower scene starring JANET LEIGH,
6. MATRIX - The first kung fu sequence,
7. THE EXORCIST - The head-spinning scene,
8. DIRTY HARRY - CLINT EASTWOOD growling, "Do you feel lucky, punk?",
9. WHEN HARRY MET SALLY - MEG RYAN's fake orgasm,
10. THE ITALIAN JOB - The cliffhanger ending.
