British icon Morrissey cut short an American concert on Sunday after a bouncer used excessive force with a fan who jumped up on stage.

Morrissey was performing encore song There is a Light That Never Goes Out at New York's Radio City Music Hall when an enthusiastic fan launched himself onstage and was immediately tackled by a tough security guard.

American gossip website Page Six reports Morrissey urged the crowd to "boo to the bouncers".

He then leant into the audience and shook the shaken fan's hand before vacating the stage without finishing the seminal song by his former band The Smiths.
