Metallica strikes up the band

One for those into the manic world of metal, though it’s so good that those into classical and church choirs should enjoy it too.

Metallica: Some Kind of Monster

Directors: Bruce Sinofsky/Joe Berlinger

Cast: Lots of mad metallers

One for those into the manic world of metal, though it’s so good that those into classical and church choirs should enjoy it too.

A solid and never-dull documentary, this follows the cult band Metallica over a two-year period, during which time they try to put together their first new album for five years.

Along the way the band members fall out, get stressed out, bring in a man who might help them - paying him $40,000 a month, for which we would all offer to help - and come sort-of good.

It’s a revealing look at the outer fringes of music and illustrates just how much people suffer to bring us our entertainment.
