Great chunks of horror in Saw

Saw

Director: James Wan

Cast: Cary Elwes, Leigh Whannell, Danny Glover, Monica Potter, Ken Leung

Cert: 18.

When Adam (Whannell) and Larry (Elwes) come into an underground bathroom and chained to the wall, with no idea how they got there, in spite of some baffling clues left for them, you know you are at the start of a horror story.

Fort all its many flaws, though, Saw isn’t a truly bad film - throw in Glover and Leung as a couple of cops searching for a serial killer - it’s just that it’s on the unsavoury side and is lumbered with a screenplay that isn’t sure where it’s going; oh yes, and great chunks of it don’t make sense.

It’s the sort of film that only true fans of horror will fully appreciate.

Star Rating: 2/5
