Dracula leaves Transylvania for lakeside resort

A theme park inspired by Dracula, the fictional bloodthirsty count, is to be built in a lakeside resort in eastern Europe where Vlad the Impaler – the inspiration for Dracula - is buried.

The go-ahead was given yesterday for the project, which begun in 2001 and seemed to have been abandoned, it was reported.

Originally, developers wanted to build Dracula Park in the Transylvanian city of Sighisoara, but there were protests from conservationists it would damage one of Europe’s best-preserved medieval cities.
