Morissette scraps Indonesian concert amid security fears
Canadian pop singer Alanis Morissette has become the latest international star to cancel a concert in Indonesia due to security fears, promoters said today.
Morissette was due to perform in the capital Jakarta on Sunday but pulled out following a US travel advisory in early September warning of possible terror attacks in Indonesia, concert promoter Rini Noor told a TV station.
Six days after the advisory was issued, a suicide bombing outside the Australian Embassy killed nine people and injured more than 170.
The attack prompted American rhythm and blues singer Alicia Keys and British violin act Bond to cancel their concerts in Jakarta. Some groups, however, have ignored the warnings in recent weeks and played in the capital, including British boy-band Blue and German rock group Scorpions.
Morissette, whose songs have often dealt with failed relationships and include âIronicâ and âYou Oughta Knowâ, has won several Grammys, including album of the year for 1995âs âJagged Little Pillâ.
The 30-year-old singer is touring with her new record âSo Called Chaosâ.
