Slater method acts in West End version of Cuckoo's Nest

Actor Christian Slater's eccentric behaviour has shocked his London theatre co-stars - his antics include shredding a jacket with a cheese grater.

The Hollywood star, who is playing mental hospital inmate RP McMurphy in the West End stage version of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, grabbed a fellow cast member's overcoat and employed some very unusual attempts to make it look old and worn.

A source says: "He then put the jacket on, went out on to the street in Soho and started rolling around on the pavement to make it look more worn-in."
