Sex and the City actress Sarah Jessica Parker is facing a backlash from young Republican women opposed to her staunchly Democratic views.

The blonde actress - who is married to Matthew Broderick - has inadvertently sparked a fashion craze among the opposition party faithful thanks to her support of Presidential contender John Kerry.

Referring to her character Carrie Bradshaw, a team of Washington women are wearing black cotton T-shirts emblazoned with slogans including: "Carrie doesn't speak for me. Neither does Kerry" and: "Pro-Manolo, Pro-Bush".

Republican worker Jessica Boulanger says: "We're encouraging other influential women to wear the T-shirt to send the signal that our overwhelming support for Carrie Bradshaw's four-inch stilettos does not mean we overwhelmingly support John Kerry's flip flops."
