Writer-director M Night Shyamalan plans to shoot a screen adaptation of Yann Mattel's popular novel Life of Pi.

The Sixth Sense film-maker will set cameras rolling on the Booker Prize- winning story - about a boy and a tiger trapped in a boat - after he has finished work on his next picture.

He says: "Anyone who reads the book will think I wrote it. The boy is from Pinscher and I am from Pinscher.

"It's really cool and steeped in the same language as my films. It's very psychological and very spiritual.

The 34-year-old Indian director also reveals his new film, which remains untitled, contains yet another interesting twist.

He says: "I have an idea but I'm not saying anything yet."
