A famous Irish World War I song, Eric Boyle's The Green Fields of France, is to be translated into a major €20m film, with a shooting schedule in Ireland late next year.

A famous Irish World War I song, Eric Boyle's The Green Fields of France, is to be translated into a major €20m film, with a shooting schedule in Ireland late next year.

The song tells the story of Private William McBride, and was considered an inspiration during the 1914 to 1918 war.

Producer John Phelan promises the massive project will have a heavy emphasis on Irish crew and cast, with Chris Feeny favourite for the key role.
