The Bourne Supremacy

Director: Paul Greenglass

Cast: Matt Damon, Franka Potente, Brian Cox, Julia Stiles, Karl Urban

Cert: 15.

The return of the eponymous David Webb/Jason Bourne - played with a great deal of verve by the excellent Damon - brings us a fast-paced tale of political intrigue, murder, betrayal, and romance.

The original Bourne Identity was a success and, happily, this follow-up story of CIA dirty deeds is every bit as good since, wisely, director Greenglass doesn’t bother overmuch with the plot but rather allows the action to be the main feature.

We have here an almost old-fashioned tale of secret agents doing what secret agents do without too much emphasis on the plot progress. And it all moves towards a terrific climatic car chase through Moscow.

Damon shines as the central anti-hero and brings to the role a solid suggestion of more going on than we might appreciate. It’s a gem of a highly-entertaining film.

Star Rating: 4/5
