Devlins kick off Irish tour with new album
The Devlins' Irish tour kicks off tomorrow night in Dolan's Warehouse in Limerick, with the band travelling to Cork's Half Moon Theatre on Saturday night.
The tour continues with a Tueday's gig in the Róisín Dubh in Galway and three nights, next Thursday, Friday and Saturday, in Dublin's Whelan's.
Tomorrow also sees the release of the Devlins' fouth album, Waves.
Hailing from Dublin, The Devlins are brothers, Colin Devlin (vocals/guitar) and Peter Devlin (bass guitar/backing vocals); Mark Murphy (guitar) and Guy Rickerby (drums).
Sunrise, the first single from the new album, is an up-tempo guitar track, suggesting the band took a different approach to recording this time around.
“We set up to record in a very live way”, said Peter Devlin. “Our recording studio lends itself to that.
"It’s a big warehouse in Dublin’s docklands.”
Colin continued: “We worked the arrangements out the way we would for a live show. Then we hit the record button.
"Previously, we’ve worked the other way around. I think this time it made for a more dynamic record which is great to play live.”
This energy was brought to the fore in the final stages of recording by British mix engineer Danton Supple.
“We really liked what Danton did when he was working with the English band Doves. He has also done some great work on the Coldplay and Starsailor records and has an ability to make a performance sound epic,” said Peter.
