Controversial rapper Beenie Man has issued a statement offering his "sincerest apologies" for the "homophobic" lyrics in some of his songs.

The star has infuriated gay rights groups by writing songs about murdering and brutalising homosexual men and women. Police fear his music could incite violence towards the homosexual community and have prompted him to make a public apology.
