Voight talks of loss after split with daughter Jolie

Superstar Angelina Jolie's father Jon Voight has spoken of his sadness and sense of loss after his Oscar-winning daughter cut him out of her life.

In his first interview following their public rift in 2002, the Ali star confesses to a huge gap in his life and heartbreak of never having the same relationship with his daughter.

He says: "I love my children. My children are my loves. You bet."

For the past 30 years, Voight insisted that he would never remarry after the separation from Jolie's mother Marcheline Betrand because he wants to be there for his children.

He explains: "I have never remarried because I want to be always available for them."

The Tomb Raider beauty cut him out of her life after he accused her of having "serious mental problems" following her split from her second husband Billy Bob Thornton.

Jolie has even had the Voight part of her name legally removed to cut off all ties to her father.

Voight highlights his regret for causing such problems between the two.

He adds: "I have had to take a good look at the mistakes I have made, make some sort of reparation for the damage I have caused."

The only time the two ever got along was two decades after his separation from the actress' model mother to the point where they starred in the first Tomb Raider movie in 2001.
