Reel Big Fish to hit Dublin and Cork
With horn's blazing, the popular ska-punk band, Reel Big Fish are back with a tour that calls at the Voodoo Rooms, Dublin on August 24 and An Crúiscín Lán, Cork on August 25. Tickets are €18.50 and are on sale now from usual outlets nationwide.
Reel Big Fish were formed in California with the original intention of playing glam metal covers. Ska intervened, and the Reel Big Fish began swimming up a different musical stream.
They became distinguished by their hyperkinetic stage shows, juvenile humour, ironic covers of new-wave pop songs and metallic shards of ska.
The combination of Aaron Barrett's guitar work, Matt Wong's bass licks, Tyler Jones, Scott Klopfenstein and Dan Regan on horns and Justin Ferreira's drumming along, with their entertaining stage banter makes Reel Big Fish one of the better live acts to see.
Reel Big Fish released their debut album Everything Sucks (1995) independently before signing with indie label, Mojo Records. On Mojo they released Turn The Radio Off (1996), which reached gold record status and produced the hit single Sell Out.
This was followed by Keep Your Receipt (1997), Why Do They Rock So Hard? (1998), Everything Sucks (2000) and Cheer Up (2002). Their 1997 hit 'Trendy' provided a good glimpse of the band's quirky, sarcastic lyrical attitude.
In 1998, Reel Big Fish made their movie début as the house band in Universal Pictures' Basketball with Matt Stone and Trey Parker, creators of South Park.
