Primal Scream kick off Bud Rising festival

British rockers Primal Scream were set to kick start Ireland’s newest international music festival, Bud Rising, tonight.

A mix of more than 100 artists will be hitting Dublin over 10 days, playing a variety of intimate venues throughout the city.

They range from established acts such as Kings of Leon, Ian Brown and Badly Drawn Boy to Irish talent including The Jimmy Cake and Nina Hynes.

Highlights are expected to include soul sensation Angie Stone, indie favourites the Charlatans and hip hop trio De La Soul.

Bud Rising is Ireland’s first ever multi-venue musical festival, with both unsigned and pioneering acts performing in Dublin’s top 30 music venues. Many of the gigs are free of charge.

The festival will also include various impromptu outdoor gigs, photographic exhibitions by music photographers and film screenings.

"From Disco to Disco – A brief retrospective of dance music images" features a selection of dance music images shot by photographer Brendan Duffy over the past eight years which will be displayed in Traffic on Abbey Street, throughout the festival.

A special exhibition of Hot Press covers, from the first-ever in 1977 which featured Rory Gallagher, to recent front pages depicting acts including The Strokes, My Bloody Valentine and The Thrills will be held in The Front Lounge, Parliament Street, throughout the festival.
