U2 set for Glastonbury 2005?

U2 are being lined up to headline next year's Glastonbury festival, the festival organiser has hinted.

Less than a week after the curtain fell on this year's summer bash in the south west of England, organiser Michael Evans is already planning Glastonbury 2005 - and he has hinted it may have an Irish theme.

Eavis also wants to expand the festival to allow 20,000 fans to attend and says there probably won't be an event in 2006.

He said: "There will definitely be a festival next year and then we will probably take 2006 off. I've agreed a headline act today.

"It's a band who have never headlined here before - and let's just say the number 2 is very involved."

Eavis recently revealed how he had been trying to book the Rolling Stones and Prince for next year's bash. "I try to get them (The Stones) every year," he said "but it won't be next year. We just missed out on Prince this time, but I'm hopeful for next year - if I can persuade him to get on a plane."

On the future of the seminal summer festival, he added: "We may increase numbers yet. I haven't decided yet. But Glastonbury will carry on getting bigger and bigger. I'm 70 next year but have never felt like retiring. We are going to be here a long time yet."
