Director Michael Moore's controversial political film Fahrenheit 9/11 premiered in Washington on Wednesday night to wide applause from Democrats, who hope the movie will help oust George W Bush from power.

Actress Sally field joined Moore and more than 800 mostly Democratic guests at the private screening of the documentary which criticises the war in Iraq and alleges connections between the American President and influential Saudi families, including the bin Ladens.
