Mel Gibson's next project differs considerably from his controversial smash hit "The passion of the Christ" - it's a TV programme about a single father raising five sons.

Savages, currently in development for American television network ABC, is set to star David Carradine and is loosely based on Gibson's own life.

Gibson - who himself has five sons - will not appear onscreen, but he has directed the first episode of the show in which Carradine plays the father of the boys, aged between 11 and 17.
