Have your monster-sized box of tissues ready; you’ll snivel your way through this tear-jerker as an elderly couple (Rowlands, the director’s mother, and Garner) re-trace their past from the pages of the title’s notebook.

She is on the verge of a mental collapse and he is anxious to remind her of all the good and loving times they have shared.

It’s a film that blatantly goes for the lump in the throat but supports this with a weak script and warmed-over emotions.

Rowlands and Garner are quite good as the central couple but they have been handed some pretty duff notes to work with.
