Legendary singer Diana Ross amazed bosses at a teenage community centre when she offered to perform a fund-raising gig in its benefit for free.

The star - whose sons Evan and Ross Naess voluntarily work at the centre in Connecticut - phoned

organisation director Kyle Silver to arrange the concert, set to be held on Thursday.

While the gig is free, Ross will raise money by charging $250 (€200) for 300 people who attend an exclusive reception hosted by the singer after she performs.

A shocked Silver says, "For a second I thought it was a joke. I mean, when does that ever happen?"
