Jane Eyre copy sells for €35,000
A first edition of Charlotte Bronte’s Jane Eyre sold for nearly €35,000 at auction today.
The rare, triple-volume work was sold to a private bidder at Sotheby’s in New York for £22,859 (€35,654), the auction house confirmed.
Experts said the finely-bound copies, published in 1847, were in “remarkable condition“.
The Jane Eyre exhibit was among 450 lots in a sale of fine arts and manuscripts at Sotheby’s.
Among them was a second edition compilation of William Shakespeare’s Comedies, Histories, and Tragedies, dating back to the 17th century, which sold for more than €50,000.
