Cattrall: SATC decision 'most difficult'

Kim Cattrall said today that pulling the plug on a Sex and the City movie was one of the “most difficult decisions” she had made.

Cattrall, who played sex-crazed PR guru Samantha, rejected the idea of bringing the hit series to the big screen.

Following the massive success of the New York-based sitcom, a movie would be guaranteed to make fortunes for its stars.

But Cattrall announced recently that she would not star in the movie, leading producers to shelve the project.

Her announcement came amid persistent reports that she is involved in a feud with co-star Sarah Jessica Parker.

Cattrall told the Entertainment Tonight TV show: “Life is really about beginnings and endings and this is one of the hardest, most difficult decisions that I’ve made in my personal and professional career.”

She said: “I had six amazing years with the Sex and the City family and I just wanted to thank all the fans because I’ve had so much support.”

Last week it emerged that some stars of the show had been emailing producers with suggestions for ways to kill off Samantha, so the movie could go ahead.

But executive producer Michael Patrick King said the movie would “never happen”.

“The thing that’s the saddest to me is that the whole movie was for the audience,” he said.

“The series ended with pathos and deep emotion, but this would have been big laughs. Now it will never happen.”
