ER future for Dr Elizabeth Corday is terminal

Actress Alex Kingston, who played surgeon Dr Elizabeth Corday, has been dumped from ER after seven years.

The 41-year-old actress also says she was fired because producers didn't want to pay her $4.1m (€3.3m) salary.

Kingston says: "According to the producers I am part of the old fogeys who are no longer interesting. I understand that it needs to keep reinventing itself in order to keep going.

"But I'm sure there must have been some financial feelings behind the decision. I know the newcomers aren't getting much at all."

Kingston also fought with ER bosses about how her character should leave the show.

She adds: "They were planning to get me involved with yet another man and I'm already juggling two."
