Chambers predicts more exits from Hell's Kitchen
Dwain Chambers has predicted there will be more exits from Gordon Ramsay's 'Hell's Kitchen', after the banned athlete quit the TV show today.
Contestants Dwain Chambers and Tommy Vance walked out on the show today.
Chambers said he would not be the last to quit, telling fellow contestants: “It’s too tough. Everyone has been saying it.
“I’ve been the first to crack that’s all … There are going to be others to follow shortly. It was an experience but it was not fun.”
Ramsay puts a brave face on the departures and tries to lift the spirits of the celebrities.
The hot-tempered chef even promises to make life easier for his workers by adapting the menu.
He tells them: “The team spirit from you guys is staggering.
“Every kitchen has a problem. We’ll do this in a way that will turn it round to our advantage.
“I’ll look at the menu – shorten it to three starters, three mains, three puddings.”
He describes the decision to quit as a “bit of a blow” but adds: “We are going to get through it. We want perfection on the plate.”
Ramsay tried to make Chambers change his mind and says afterwards: “I didn’t want to lose him but if it’s in his mind it’s a mental block and he has to go”.
Speaking about Vance, he said: ‘No disrespect but from a cook’s point of view, it’s a relief.
“A big relief, because nothing happened. If he’s not 110 per cent willing there’s no point.
Chambers told the group he was leaving by announcing: “I’m finished. I’m not good here. I’m not good in the kitchen. I’ve got a lot going on in my head.”
“I came here to pick myself up but there’s too much going on in my head. It’s made me feel worse.”
Later, he said: “There’s too much heat in there for me. It’s tough. I went in with an open mind but I’ve been going through a tough time this year and that just brought everything on top.
He added: “I’ve got no problem with Gordon … Gordon paid me nothing but compliments … We got on really well but for me it was just too much.
“That was the closest to reality or work I’ve ever experienced in my life.”
When fellow chef Al Murray tells Vance that he would be “leaving us in the s***” by quitting, he replies: “Do I give a s***? It’s not good for me. They can get someone else in.”
