Posh 'moved' by the poor of Peru

Victoria Beckham has visited poor children in Peru to see how money raised by the public is being spent, it emerged today.

The pop star wife of England soccer captain David Beckham spent time with the youngsters in an impoverished community on the outskirts of the capital Lima.

A spokeswoman for Sport Relief said the trip for three days last week was for a documentary to be shown on BBC1 next month.

“She went to Peru to make a documentary to make the public aware of where the money is being spent,” she added.

Today’s Sunday Mirror said she shared the families’ lives from 6am to 6pm last Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.

She joined the families for their meals and helped them wash their clothes, the newspaper said.

She learned how children scavenge through litter looking for things to sell to support their families, it added.

And it quoted a friend as saying: “She lived the life of the villagers. It was an incredible experience for her. She found it amazingly moving.”

The Sport Relief spokeswoman said similar trips to poor communities in India and Zambia by TV presenters Patrick Kielty and Nick Knowles would also be featured in the programme.

A campaign called Go The Extra Mile is currently under way, and will culminate on July 10. People are being asked to complete a mile by any means possible to raise money for the cause. Details at www.sportrelief.com

Meanwhile Victoria – also known as Posh – has reportedly strongly defended husband David over allegations that he was unfaithful to her.

In an interview to be published in Marie Claire magazine this week she says “I know my David’s never cheated on me”, according to The Mail on Sunday.

“He’s done nothing wrong,” she reportedly tells the magazine.

“He’s not the sort of man who goes out and gets drunk, has loads of women around him and stays out all night. That’s not him.”

A spokesman for the News of the World, which first published allegations that David Beckham was unfaithful with former personal assistant Rebecca Loos and Malaysian-born model Sarah Marbeck, said: “We stand by every word of our scoops on David Beckham’s affairs.”

Beckham has dismissed the allegations as “ludicrous” in the case of Ms Loos and “absurd and unsubstantiated” in the case of Ms Marbeck.
