Billie Piper has landed the lead role in a new horror movie, it was announced today.

The singer-turned-actress will star in Spirit Trap, about a group of students haunted by an evil legacy.

It is the third film role for the 21-year-old wife of Chris Evans.

She has a small part opposite Orlando Bloom in The Calcium Kid, in cinemas at the moment.

And her latest movie, Things To Do Before You’re 30, premieres at the Cannes Film Festival today.

The Brit flick stars Jimi Mistry, Emilia Fox and Dougray Scott. Piper plays a young woman who wants to have a threesome.

Piper trained at the Sylvia Young Theatre School in London before becoming a pop star at 15 with the chart-topping single Because We Want To.

She quit her singing career and married Chris Evans three years ago but has recently returned to acting.

Her two TV roles – as a wannabe singer married to Dennis Waterman in The Miller’s Tale and as a care home youngster in Bella and the Boys – won praise from critics.

Spirit Trap will be shot in the UK and Romania, and filming begins later this month.
