Radio a maudlin waste of talent

A sterling cast of quality talent ... wasted in this dire story - another true one - of a mentally-retarded radio enthusiast (Gooding), who was mentored by a college football coach in South Carolina in the l970s.

Sporting stories aren't doing well this week, and yet sport should be a wonderful foundation for good stories.

Sport comes with its own drama and heart and, even if this film tries to tell its story as another feel-good effort, it fails miserably. It is uninspiring and it is approached by its cast as a chore to be got rid of as quickly as possible.

Maudlin rubbish!
