New stars arrive to spice up Corrie

Coronation Street unveiled two new stars today and promised the characters would arrive with a “bang”.

Southerners Danny and Frankie Baldwin – played by TV favourites Bradley Walsh and Debra Stephenson – are set to “ruffle feathers” when they arrive in Weatherfield.

The announcement comes just a day after it was revealed veteran comedian Norman Wisdom, 89, has been given a cameo role in the ITV soap.

Danny moves from Essex to work alongside his uncle, Mike Baldwin, at the lingerie factory Underworld.

He arrives in Weatherfield on May 31 and in his first week he drives his prized Porsche into Les Battersby’s taxi, thumps Les, fights with Tommy Harris and sleeps with Sunita.

Walsh, the 43-year-old former Wheel of Fortune host, said: “Danny is a man of means and flashy suits. He is an opportunist and a bit of a charmer.”

On June 7 his wife Frankie arrives, causing Sunita to give Danny a black eye.

Frankie, who slept with Danny’s best friend before he left Essex, comes to Weatherfield to try to win her husband back.

Stephenson, 31, who used to star in Bad Girls, said: “She is an Essex wife who is a little bit snooty and above herself. She is very feisty.”

A Coronation Street spokeswoman added: “Frankie and Danny Baldwin arrive with a real bang.

“They make their presence felt in Weatherfield and manage to upset quite a few people.”
