Actress Leslie Ash was back in hospital today after contracting “an unknown infection”, her publicist said.

The Men Behaving Badly star, 43, was in a “stable” condition at an unnamed hospital with husband Lee Chapman and two sons at her bedside, Neil Reading said.

In a statement on behalf of Ash, Mr Reading said the actress was believed to have contracted the infection during her stay at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in west London earlier this week.

He said: “Leslie Ash is in hospital in a stable condition after contracting an unknown infection.

“Extensive tests have been carried out to diagnose this, the results of which will be known tomorrow.

“She has been prescribed a strong course of antibiotics and the hospital doctors say she is responding well to the treatment.”

Mr Reading added: "She contracted the infection whilst being treated at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital earlier this week.

“The infection attacked her nervous system and for a short time she lost the feeling below her waist, which has now started to return.

“Her husband Lee Chapman and two sons are with her at her hospital bedside and are all hoping for a speedy complete recovery.”

Ash was admitted to the unnamed hospital in the early hours of Friday morning, Mr Reading confirmed.

She was discharged from Chelsea and Westminster Hospital on Wednesday five days after being admitted with a broken rib and collapsed lung.

The actress and her ex-soccer star husband released a statement at the time stressing that her injuries were the result of an “accident”.

Ash had explained that she suffered the injuries when she hit a bedside table while having sex.

In a joint statement, the couple said they were “hurt and upset” by suggestions that Ash’s injuries were not accidental.

Police were called to the couple’s penthouse apartment in Chelsea, west London, in the early hours of Friday April 23.

Officers originally arrested Chapman following the incident but he was later released without charge.

Ash said afterwards: “The injuries happened when I hit a bedside table. We were making love and this happens. How embarrassing is that?”
