Zellweger too old to play rock legend

Oscar winner Renee Zellweger is too old to play rock legend Janis Joplin, according to the director of a rival biopic.

Penelope Spheeris is directing rocker Pink in her leading role debut in The Gospel According To Janis, which is set to hit cinema screens shortly after the Zellweger-led Piece Of My Heart.

And, while Spheeris believes there is room for both movies in Hollywood, she is concerned Zellweger, at 34, is too old to play Joplin, who died aged 27-years-old in 1970.

Spheeris says, "You know what, Janis Joplin was so cool that she deserves to have two movies.

"I just think ours might be a little more appealing to the younger audience because of Pink.

"And also Renee's almost 35-years-old now, so I don't know how they're gonna start with her. If they make that work, I want that makeup woman every morning!"
