TV companies dispute Bono swear word ruling

Media companies and artists have protested a ruling made against Bono over his use of a swear word at the 2003 Golden Globe awards.

The Screen Artists Guild and CBS owner Viacom were among those protesting against the regulator, the FCC.

They said the FCC's ruling against Bono is "chilling free speech across the broadcast landscape" while NBC said the ruling went against years of allowing "isloated and fleeting" utterances of four-letter words in news and live broadcasts.
