Ant and Dec were honoured tonight at the prestigious Golden Rose awards ceremony with two honours.

The Geordie lads were “thrilled” after winning in both best Game Show host and best Variety categories for Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Take Away at this year’s Rose d’Or television festival.

There was also success for EastEnders star Shane Richie who was named best Soap actor and Harry Hill took the best Comedy Actor award for Harry Hill’s TV Burp.

ITV hosts Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly, both 28, said tonight: “We are really, really thrilled.

“Picking up not one but two awards is very special for us. We love making Saturday Night Takeaway so it’s brilliant that it’s been recognised at such an important and prestigious event, especially when we were up against some of the world’s finest television talent.

“We really appreciate what an honour this is and look forward to making more Saturday Night Takeaway’s in the future”.

The star studded event held in Lucerne, Switzerland featured the actors Roger Moore, Christopher Lee and Harry Belafonte,

Martin Freeman picked up a best Sitcom Actor award for his role in the ITV comedy Hardware and Creature Comforts made by Aardman Productions and starring stop animation animals scooped Best Comedy.

Channel 4’s popular programme Wife Swap won a Golden Rose for best Reality Show and the quirky comedy sketch series Little Britain starring Matt Lucas and David Walliams won the Press Prize.
