Sinatra paintings to be sold at auction
A collection of abstract paintings by legendary crooner Frank Sinatra will go under the hammer tomorrow.
The star’s little-known love for painting will be revealed when the series of vibrant canvases go on sale in Las Vegas.
Also on sale are photographs, including one of Sinatra on a golfing trip with Bing Crosby and Bob Hope.
The paintings are expected to sell at the Godt-Cleary Gallery for between €6,000 and €18,400.
They are being auctioned by his widow Barbara Sinatra as part of a benefit drive for a centre for abused and neglected children.
The paintings, inspired by contemporary masters, were created by Sinatra in his studio in Palm Springs.
The painting expected to fetch the highest price appears to be Rothko-inspired 1985 orange and purple untitled work.
Also on sale are various drawings of Sinatra and the sheet music from I Was Wrong, from 1947, adorned by lipstick marks from a fan.
The legendary star died, aged 82, in May 1998, of a heart attack.
