Cannon released after escaping apartment blaze

Actress Dyan Cannon has been released from a hospital after suffering smoke inhalation when a fire broke out in her flat.

The actress was wakened by a smoke detector around 8am yesterday and fled her eighth-floor property in Los Angeles, said fire captain Steve Martin.

She was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre and released later in the day, hospital spokeswoman Kelli Stauning.

The fire was put out in about 15 minutes. A preliminary investigation indicated it may have been started by an electrical fault.

Cannon, 67, starred with Warren Beatty in the 1978 hit film Heaven Can Wait and appeared more recently in the TV series Ally McBeal.
