Scarf's out for Dr Who

Dr Who is to ditch his famous scarf when he returns to TV.

Christopher Eccleston has signed up to play the timelord in the new BBC series.

But he will be throwing out the multi-coloured stripey scarf and floppy hat worn by the likes of Tom Baker.

"We are not going to wear scarves and hats. It is still to be decided what the Doctor is going to wear, but he's not going to be quite as eccentric and foppish as he has been in some of his incarnations," Eccleston told BBC Breakfast.
