Caine to open Indian restaurant
Michael Caine is to open an Indian restaurant in London.
The film star has co-owned a string of upmarket eateries over the years.
Deya, his first Indian restaurant, opens at the end of the month in Portman Square, central London.
It will offer a “light and healthy” alternative to the usual curry house menu.
Caine, 71, said: “I have been out of the restaurant business for quite a few years.
“This particular project is the first venture that has excited me enough to get back into the business, and I am really looking forward to it.”
His last restaurant was The Canteen, which opened in 1992 and closed four years ago. Previous ventures included Langan’s Brasserie.
Deya is housed in a Grade II listed building and will feature a plush cocktail bar.
Head chef Sanjay Dwivedi and head barman Massimo di Paola were previously at Zaika, one of the first Indian restaurants to receive a Michelin star.
