Glastonbury tickets go on sale

Tickets for this year’s Glastonbury Festival go on sale today.

With Paul McCartney, Oasis and Muse set to headline the event, organiser Michael Eavis said he is certain Britain’s best known music festival will be memorable.

Last year tickets for the festival in Pilton, Somerset, sold out in just 24 hours.

Some 115,000 tickets for this year’s event on June 25, 26 and 27 will go on sale at 8pm tonight at the cost of £112 (€168) each.

In a fresh attempt to clamp down on touts Mr Eavis said tickets would be personalised with the name and address of the buyer printed on them.

The farmer, who has used his Somerset land to hold the festival since the early 1970s, said tickets would be restricted to two per person.

“Last year tickets sold very quickly and as a result we had a huge problem with tickets being offered all over the place at three or four times their face value,” he said.

“Tickets will be restricted to two per person and each transaction will be vigilantly monitored to make sure there is no repetition.

“All tickets will be personalised to prevent unauthorised reselling – and there will be identity checks at the gates.

“We don’t want people to have to pay through their nose to come to the festival and we hope this will make things much fairer.”

Tickets will have to be bought by debit card, because organisers thought touts bought multiple tickets by credit card last year.

The 8pm start is an attempt to allow people who are at school or at work to buy tickets.

Other stars including Morrissey, PJ Harvey, James Brown, Basement Jaxx, Elbow, The Chemical Brothers, and Ms Dynamite are also rumoured to play.

Punters can buy tickets from the website using a debit card, or from the ticket line 0870 830 2004.
