Spider-man 3 plans already woven

Months before Spider-Man 2 hits cinema screens, film-makers today confirmed that work is already beginning to create a third instalment of the action adventure.

Peter Parker fans will be able to see the second Spider-Man movie this summer, but will probably have to wait until 2007 for the next adventure, said Sony.

In the second movie, coming out on July 16, Tobey Maguire returns as the mild-mannered Peter Parker, torn between his two lives as a college student and a superhuman crime fighter.

Based on the Marvel Comics adventure, Spider-Man confronts a new enemy, the tentacled Otto Octavius, played by Alfred Molina, who has been reincarnated as the maniacal Doc Ock.

During a conference call on Tuesday, Marvel Studios chairman and chief executive Avi Arad said: “Spider-Man 3 is in development”.

He added that a “contemplated release date will be probably 2007”, reported Variety Magazine.

He said there was a possibility that the third instalment could come out in 2006, but added: “It is a big movie, and we would rather play it safe and talk about the 2007 at this point.”

There are reports that director Sam Raimi has committed to making the movie, and that Maguire’s agents are bearing the third film in mind when booking the star for other work.

It is not believed that a script has yet been written for the third movie.

The first film was written by David Koepp and the second by a number of writers, including Pulitzer-prize winning novelist Michael Chabon.

The original Spider-Man was released in May 2002.
