Cold Mountain director gets life back on track

Director Anthony Minghella says not speaking for some time would be his preferred way of recovering from shooting Cold Mountain.

Director Anthony Minghella says not speaking for some time would be his preferred way of recovering from shooting Cold Mountain.

He says he also would like to return to his everyday life as father, husband, friend - all the things he completely neglected working on a production as exhausting as Cold Mountain.

Cold Mountain is nominated for seven Oscars but the director admits he paid a high price for it, as he lost friends because he simply didn't have the time to stay in touch.

He acknowledges that when filming, responsibilities shift a lot and that it's impossible to take care of everything, so "you tend to sacrifice the most important things in life, like friends - simply because they don't protest out loud".
