Blind Flight

15.
Based on his own book, An Evil Cradling, this fine, thoughtful and moving film from debut director Furse tells the story of the imprisonment in Lebanon during the l980s of Ulsterman Brian Keenan and English journalist John McCarthy.
Both were kidnapped and held for several years, during which time they formed an unlikely friendship which sustained them through their awful ordeal.
All of which is examined with compassion and understanding in what is a remarkable film in that it captures all of the key elements of the story to perfection.
What makes the film so strong is the playing of Hart (Keenan) and Roache (McCarthy). It is a fine combination of skill that they should bring to life so vividly the trials of the two prisoners.
Furse imbues his film with a deep understanding of the ordeal and a genuine feeling for the human spirit shown by Keenan and McCarthy. A memorable film in all respects.
