Courtney Love fails to show for drugs hearing

Troubled singer Courtney Love failed to show up for a California court hearing on drug charges, prompting a judge to issued a bench warrant.

But he put it on hold after getting an explanation from the rocker’s lawyer.

William Genego told the judge that Love could not make it due to a “security” issue. He did not elaborate but said she was on call to appear as necessary.

The judge agreed to put the warrant on hold until February 17. It was the third postponement of a pre-trial hearing concerning felony charges that Love illegally possessed two painkillers.

Authorities say they discovered the painkillers when Love was taken to a hospital on October 2 last year after being found outside an ex-boyfriend’s house where she allegedly smashed windows.

Separately, she was charged with a misdemeanour of being under the influence of a drug. That case, being heard in a Los Angeles court, was postponed later in the day to February 23.

Love, lead singer of the group Hole and widow of Nirvana grunge rocker Kurt Cobain, has a new album, America’s Sweetheart, out this month.
