Rock on in School of Rock
School of Rock
Richard Linklater
Jack Black, Mike White, Joan Cusack.
General.
A fun movie which manages to be old-fashioned - off-beat teacher at a snooty college gets the snooty kids into rock 'n' roll and annoys their snooty parents and snooty teachers - as well as charmingly funny and richly entertaining.
It's written by White and it gives Black - the teacher - one of his best roles, that of the slob, Dewey Finn, dumped by his own band, who pretends to be his roommate in order to steal the teaching job at a New York school.
His class turns out to be rather good as music so he moves them away from the classics to the rock, frightening the buttoned-down principal (Cusack) and the parents. You couldn't not like Black's performance or a film which provides so much delightful fun.
Rock on!
