Gollum actor honoured by filmgoers

The man behind Gollum in Lord of the Rings finally proved there was more to his character than computer wizardry when he clinched a Best Actor award.

Andy Serkis had been tipped but failed to secure an Oscar nomination for his part in the Peter Jackson film amid controversy about how much acting was involved in bringing the character to screen.
