After 40 years The Beatles’ debut appearances on the Ed Sullivan show remain among the most-watched programmes in US history, a study found today.

Despite competition from Super Bowls, Olympics, Oscar ceremonies and even JR’s shooting in Dallas, the Fab Four’s first two appearances on the show in 1964 have the second and third highest percentage viewing figures ever.
