Brocket faces rope ladder bushtucker challenge

Shamed aristocrat Lord Brocket is to attempt to conquer his fear of heights when he undertakes the latest challenge in TV reality show ‘I’m a Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here!’.

The 52-year-old was chosen by the public in a vote on last night’s show to undertake the next Bushtucker Trial, the Ladder Lottery.

For the test, he will have to climb rope ladders suspended in the jungle in order to win rations for the camp.

The former army lieutenant, who was jailed for five years over a £4.5m (€6.6m) classic car racket, greeted the news of his nomination with glee and monkey impressions.

But despite his humour he told his fellow celebrities: “I hate them, I hate heights.

“Now what do I need? Underwater gear for a ladder? I think so. I hate going up there.”

His nomination came after an eventful day for the 10 celebrities in the camp, which saw Alex Best confiding in glamour girl Jordan and ex-Atomic Kitten Kerry McFadden about her life with football legend George; Peter Andre telling Kerry of his feelings for Jordan; and John Lydon trying to escape from the camp.

The former Sex Pistols frontman made a bid for freedom after getting sick of life in the jungle.

John, 47, made it half way over the bridge separating the camp from the outside world before he was caught.

He told the other celebrities: “I tried to escape, it’s the devil in me. I thought I’d try and get across that bridge, I couldn’t see anyone so I thought I could get across. I got about half way when I got caught and so I snuck off into the bush.”

The anarchic star had begun the day in a bad mood and lashed out at Jordan, greeting her with the words: “Hello Jordan, when are you actually going to do something?”

After covering his face in charcoal to protect himself from mosquitos, he stomped off into the jungle.

As the day wore on, the other celebrities realised he had disappeared and sent Lord Brocket to find him.

The aristocrat brought him back to camp where he presented Jennie Bond with a wild flower he had picked for her.

Jennie successfully completed her first Bushtucker Trial, called Danger Down Under.

She survived being buried in a plastic coffin as it filled with water and rats.

The former royal correspondent was told only that there would be some surprises in store when she was inside the coffin.

Wearing plastic goggles, she climbed down into the box, then the lid was closed and covered in soil.

Jennie kept her spirits up by humming constantly and repeating the name of her daughter, saying, “Emma, Emma, Emma, Emma, I love you.”

Then water started pouring into the coffin but Jennie was unfazed. “That’s nice. At least it’s cooling,” she said. “I could be in a swimming pool. Lovely, lovely, lovely.”

Then 30 rats were let into the pitch black coffin. Jennie couldn’t see them but could feel them crawling all over her.

One rat crawled onto her head and tickled her cheek with its tail, at which point the lights were flashed on so Jennie could catch a glimpse of her coffin companions.

But still she kept calm, keeping her eyes tightly shut and humming even louder.

Forty crayfish were then added to the coffin and Jennie admitted: “Ok. It’s pretty grim, actually. I’m not feeling okay.”

But she stayed underground for the full 10 minutes, winning a meal for every minute she was there.

As she emerged from the hole in the ground, with rats still crawling all over her, her biggest worry was: “Is my mascara still on?”

She added: “I’m really proud of myself but my hair is wet, which is a shame. I’m very happy. It was absolutely horrible. I didn’t open my eyes. It was a ghastly feeling.”

Talking about the rats, she said: “I just thought singing might keep them away but they crawled over my lips. I thought ‘I’m not sure I like this’ but I just kept thinking about my daughter and I wanted to do it for her.”

Meanwhile, Jordan told Kerry McFadden there was no chance of romance with Peter Andre.

“I get on with him like that but I’ve got a boyfriend,” she said.

The glamour girl said she was put off before the show started by stories that he was planning to make a play for her.

The pair have been getting close in the jungle camp but Jordan said her boyfriend Scott wouldn’t mind: “He knows I’m a flirty person.”

Peter delivered worrying news to the nation when he announced that he was working on a new single.

“It’s called Insania,” he said. “It’s not a word that’s actually in the dictionary, it’s a new word that is a mixture of insane and mania.”

He then performed the song – which is about cloning – and said: “I’ve got just loads of this on my mind. I’ve got to do this after I get out of here, even if I write it for other people.”
