Macdonald to leave Givenchy

British designer Julien Macdonald is leaving the classic Paris fashion house Givenchy, where his maverick image was never a comfortable fit.

Macdonald, at his best showing fancy knits and short, sexy dresses, seemed to have a tough time finding his niche at the Paris fashion house known for its tradition of ladylike elegance.

The Welshman told Paris Premiere TV that he was leaving but did not say why or when or explain his plans.

His contract is up this spring, and news reports have said that Givenchy is looking for another designer.

A Givenchy spokesman said the house had no comment.

What may be McDonald’s last show for Givenchy in Paris this week was well received by critics.
